Appealing to the Masses

Floridians. The elderly. The poor. Today's youth who wonder about their future benefits. These people are Obama's audience for his challenge to John McCain's view of privatizing social security. People who have lost money in the stock market are probably paying close attention to (or should be) Obama's plans to keep people's money safe - where John McCain wants to put social security funds into stocks. I seriously hope no on really thinks that's a good idea - but then again, John McCain also said the fundamentals of our economy are strong. Must be easy to say when his definition of middle class also means anyone making under $500 thousand a year. Ridiculous.
The article.

And this next one isn't a story but the inspiration is pretty powerful; the audience very telling. Clearly Obama and his supporters want to appeal to a hip audience - young people who identify with this music. But also, it appeals to the those of the maybe "old-school" who might draw parallels between Barack and Martin Luther King, Jr. or Barack and John F. Kennedy. Barack Obama is pretty cool as evidenced by this particular video - and the soundbites appeal quickly to a young audience who wants to be immediately drawn in.

Tonya, I really liked the "Yes We Can" video. First of all, good use of a source besides articles. Second of all, way to pick something that DEFINITELY appeals to young voters - it got me all excited and emotional, whether I wanted it to or not! Great post!
